Hello - This is a rather rushed first post but after a long time with nothing happening on the kestrel nest we came in this morning to find our surprise that the first egg has been layed! Very exciting! So I have switched the web cam over for the time being!
We are still keeping an eye on the buzzard nest so if they do decide to use it we will switch over to them!
But for the time being happy viewing of the kestrels
Michael
Ps - As this has happened quickly the web cam caption will still be for the feeder for a few days until I get the web team to change it over!
Around 16 30 I heard a noise and the chicks were expectant. It was lovely to see them suddenly sit up straight. A false alarm, but as always the parent came very quickly a short time later and this time fed them.
The first clip is the false alarm:
The second clip here is when the parent, I think it was MrsAK, arrived. She brought another bird in, and you would think they were starving lol. They sound so vicious when they were all scrabbling around grabbing at the food!
On second thoughts, they probably were a tad starving as still learning to feed themselves, and have been alone most of the day doing just that.
17.29 The chicks are being fed again by mum
One of the chicks has something dangling from its beak, Mrs AK notices and removes it. I hae to smile at the noise they make and the expression on Mrs AK's face when she notices the dangling thing. Short clip to follow, again not very good re the viewing area as no time to set it.
Here is a little clip of the last feed, and the dangly thing, it's green lol
Gosh, been off-line for a few days, (don't have a fancy phone - my mobile is so old it doesn't even take photos! ) just looked in and the chicks are huge! Thanks, as always, for all the updates and visuals :-)
All quiet in the box, home alone again - lovely to see some 'real' feathers emerging :-)
Good morning all:-)
At around 11.45 the chicks are up and about, looking bigger and healthy. One of them has what looks like a slow worm in its beak and keeps hold of it. Then attempts to knock it back. Here's a little clip of it....
Darn pellet.....
mmmm.....I'll work out how to swallow it in a minute:-))
13.17, the chicks are relaxing and potter from time to time. Here are some pics of earlier, appx an hour ago....
