I was down a walk today before the rain came and as I was ambling through the gorse on Coombe Heath on the way back to the car park
I spotted a Nightjar..it flew past me about 10 feet away..lovely to see but alas the trusted camera was in my bag sheltering from the rain...so no photograph..but i will be looking again for these nice birds..so cmon Dom get back to Arne and show us what you can do..

Ambling through the gorse eh? Ouch!
Is that the first nightjar sighting?
I can hear a cuckoo on the kestrelcam.
think it is Dom..never heard any cuckoos though..
Fantastic to have the first nightjar sighting! I was going to head up to the heath to have a look but unfortunately the rain had set in by then. I will try to have a look later today! Twilight is normally the best time to spot nightjars as they become more active around this time, so it is possible that you had just disturbed it.
Cuckoo's have been reported quite frequently from the Shipstal side!
Excellent Pete! I'm jealous again :-D shame for the rain and no camera though, but at least you know where to spot him again.
