First of all, a BIG thank-you to everyone who took part in Big Garden Birdwach in the West country over the weekend. We did our hour on Saturday morning and recorded 13 species, including brambling, but missing siskin and fieldfare. According to RSPB HQ it looks like there's been a 20% increase in participants over last year, and in one hour alone we recieved a staggering 10,000 forms. Alongside the species you might expect in the region we also had black redstart for a garden in Truro, and a cirl bunting. Further afield there were records of dippers, waxwings and, amazingly, a sea eagle in a Scottish garden. Big Garden Birdwatch results can be submitted until Feb 18. Visit the RSPB website - www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch - for more information and to submit your results online. We hope to publish the results in March.
