I haven't noticed any reports of waxwings locally for a few days. Maybe everyone is getting blase about them.
But they'll be off soon, back to Scandinavia.
It really has been an exceptional waxwing winter - they arrived quite early and very abundantly - and then they were almost everywhere. It's difficult to know, but I'd be surprised if we get another waxwing winter like this one for at least a decade. I may not see one again in Northamptonshire for ages.
Birdtrack is showing that the numbers seem to be dropping off.

I wonder how many of them make it back ?
Still have the odd report of waxwings in south oxfordshire, berkshire area but, as you say Mark, sightings are definitely tailing off. Not quite sure where they would move to right now as is still pretty snowy and cold in Scandinavia with little or no food there for the next few weeks I would have thought

Mark, I wonder how long it will be before we can get blase about them again. Still a small number sticking it out in Swindon. Interesting how they will stay right in middle of the the urban environment. Mine this year have been large groups next to the BMW factory and on a residential estate, both within Swindon. Just one passing through Wootton Bassett.
