The public enquiry on the proposed airport at Lydd is under way. RSPB staff will be giving evidence - probably next week.
Last week, amid the forestry hooha, the Independent featured the issues at Lydd in a long piece by Mike McCarthy.
It's well worth reading the Independent article. Lots of fascinating background. "... councillors altered their own environmental consultants report ..." Amazing!
Many similarities here with the Donald Trump golf course in Scotland. Conservationists and local council were opposed to these plans yet it went ahead. Big money investors and the prospect of local jobs seems to sway final decisions.
It is a crazy place to put a significant airport with all the infrastructure/ transport facilities that would be needed. It would ruin the Dungeness area and the great RSPB reserve there. I have written to the planning inspector in charge of the Inquiry, saying that the proposal should be roundly rejected. It is the wrong project in the wrong place.
