At a loose end this summer? Or even got a spare ten minutes? Then read on to find out how you can Step Up for Nature this month.

Campaign: CAP reform e-action - The EU will fail to get anywhere near its recently adopted biodiversity target without sufficient funds for farmers and land managers to help protect and enhance the farmed environment and its wildlife through the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). With cuts to agri-environment schemes seemingly forever on the horizon we are standing up for their continued funding whilst reducing CAP’s long criticized inefficient and wasteful ways. Without sufficient funding for agri-environment schemes through CAP, birds such as the Little Bustard and Corn bunting could be wiped from the map of Europe. From 11 August you can sign our new CAP e-action at www.rspb.org.uk/steppingup

Volunteer: Become a Campaign Champion - The main aims of being an RSPB campaigner are to remind your MP or decision maker that environmental issues are important, and to urge them to take positive action. As a constituent and a consumer, you can influence people who make some pretty big decisions. By saying the right thing the right way, you can make others take action for nature. You'll also be inspiring your local community to take action as you'll be building support and raising awareness of our campaigns and appeals. Please contact Kim Matthews or Annie Sadler at EERO for more information. http://www.rspb.org.uk/supporting/campaigns/campaignwithus/index.aspx

Do: Homes for Wildlife - Don’t be too quick to dead-head your flowers! Birds will thank you for seed rich flower heads such as sunflower, teasel and love-in-a-mist. Let the flower heads rot down where they stand and you’ll be improving the condition of your soil, providing a better home for a whole host of mini beasts.
