I know this will make me sound old (I can feel the grey hairs sprouting as I type!), but the last few weeks have simply flown by! It feels like only yesterday Spingwatch hit our screens and in the blink of an eye it has been drawn to a close for another year.

For me, it has been my favourite series by far. And no, it’s not just because it had the simply stunning RSPB Ynys – hir reserve as a backdrop! There was so much more diversity this year, a real mixture of creepy crawlies, fish, snakes, mammals, birds, butterflies, landfill sites!

And what is even more amazing is the amount of people getting involved with it this year. We’ve not stopped tweeting and blogging about the show. People have been discussing it over breakfast, on the bus, in the pub, in the office! But what are we to do now? We may have all sat glued to our tv screens for the last three weeks captivated by the amazing stories, but perhaps it’s time to get out there for ourselves.

Take a walk in your local park to hear the swifts screaming overhead, pop to RSPB Lakenheath Fen to see bitterns booming past you in flight, get down to your local stream and search for minnows! Whatever takes your fancy this summer (and no, i don’t mean Kate Humble or Chris Packham!), get out there are explore!
