In honour of Go Green Week, we've handed the climate blog over to colleagues to share what they are doing in their own lives to make a difference.
Olivia Betts, in our PR team here at The Lodge shares the tips she's picked up to make her bathroom greener.
A slightly unpleasant note for Go Green Week, but I like a challenge – how to make bathroom time greener!
35% of our domestic water goes down the loo. It accounts for the highest proportion of water use in our green and pleasant land. And if that’s just what’s being flushed, imagined that coupled with all the water used in baths, showers and teeth brushing.
I’ve been looking for some green tips which are not only good for the environment but also help my finances. I’m beginning to realise that even small steps can really make a difference in the fight against climate change.
Swap baths for showers
Did you know that baths use on average 5 times as much water as showers? Now this is a hard one for me but I’m willing to cut back on the number baths I have even if I can’t drop them altogether!
Turn the water off when brushing your teeth
Now this is easy and one action I’m pleased to say I already take. It’s amazing to think that more people don’t turn the water off when brushing – such a waste!
Fix leaky taps
Not only is the drip drip dripping of a leaky tap plain irritating, you’re wasting water. So, keep yourself sane this weekend and do your bit for the environment by checking all your taps are water tight.

And don’t forget it’s not just about how often you flush, it’s about what you flush too. Think twice before throwing rubbish down the toilet – you’ll be amazed what turns up in our rivers and seas. By getting rid of bathroom rubbish responsibly you are helping birds and wildlife thrive and not choke to death on a syringe. Oh and tell people about it... knowledge is power and spreading word about the damage one little cotton bud can do is vital.
How much water do you waste just in your bathroom? Are these tips you can be making use of too?
