Shaun Thomas our Operations Director is looking forward to using his talk at the RSPB AGM and Members' Day to sing the praises of some of our nature reserves.
It seems to be custom and practice for RSPB staff who stand up to speak at AGM and Members’ Day to start with two statements – “I am a fully paid up member of the RSPB” and “I have the best job in the RSPB”. I will say neither. However both are true and my talk will allow me to share some of the highlights of my job.
Along with Stuart Housden , our Director in Scotland, I am responsible for some of the most amazing, beautiful and inspiring places in the UK and my whistle-stop tour aims to show off some of the recent highlights from across RSPB’s nature reserves.
I hope to show how our nature reserves play a vital role in saving nature – dedicating land for nature, saving species, working at scale and connecting people to the wonder of nature.
My tour will take in visits to Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England. You will see new arrivals, new sites, celebrities and my own childhood haunts.
You will watch our fantastic, vast new reserve at Wallasea take shape before your eyes and hear about some exciting plans for two of our nature reserves.
It will be a pleasure to be your guide. AGM and Members’ Day takes place on Saturday 10 October at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London. Book your place now if you want to join the tour.
And as a little taster - here's Wallasea Island in the mind's eye of artist, Richard Allen - next two an aerial taken recently since the seawall was opened to recreate part of the Essex coast:
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together!
