This Seems To Be The Season For Squirrel Antics!

There have been several postings on the forums of late which have highlighted the antics of our squirrel friends. Some up to mischief, some behaving and others even posing as feeders! I arrived home this evening to find a pair of them working to get the fatball feeder open. Eventually they succeeded. One of them then went across the garden to try its luck with the sunflower seed feeder. I have only ever had one of them visiting before now. With the arrival of Autumn, I guess their feeding has stepped up a notch. Maybe I should try giving them a challenge?

Great sequence of pictures MC!  You've got to give them 10/10 for effort!  I hope they don't become too much of a nuisance for you - although I'm sure you'll give them a good challenge!

Lol I love these photos! The little devils! Those are two quite fat looking squirrels and I'm not surprised, with the free banquets they're getting! I've been getting 2 squirrels on the feeders in my garden. They can certainly get through a lot of the food I put out for the birds but I can't begrudge them as I adore them and love watching them. I just make sure there's plenty of food for the birds too. Thankfully the squirrels aren't in my garden all day so the birds do get a look in. I'm having so much fun watching the constant stream of birds coming to the feeders since I moved here. Sadly though I won't be able to put any food out for the next few weeks as I'm going to be on holiday. But I'll make up for it when I return and put tons of food out and hope they return quickly enough - the birds AND the squirrels! :D

Oh MC what a joyful sight, well done for capturing them in action. It must've come as such light relief after the awful time you've been having trying to make your garden safe and the sad saga of the sick pigeon.

    Cheers Deb

Yes Debz, it was great to see them together. It was the first time I had seen a pair of squirrels together in my garden. They do create havoc with the feeders, but the entertainment they provide offsets any damage. I have now fixed the fatball feeder to the washing line, about a foot or so away from the tree, so it is within reach, but they will need to use a degree of skill to reach it. Unfortunately I will be leaving home at 5-30 in the morning and will not be home until about 5pm, so I will most likely miss the action. However, if they cannot reach it straight away, I might be home for the late afternoon show! The Small Bird Sanctuary is still under construction, but this week I have only had an hour or so of daylight each day to work in, so it has been slow work. Of course Baby R has already gone to roost by the time I get outside, I have missed him too :-( I do hear him every morning, but I don't go outside, just in case he sees me and starts acting up thinking I'll be feeding him maggots and fruit treats. Still, it's nice to start the day listening to his ditting followed by some tuneful singing.

doggie-I hope you aren`t encouraging squirrel to go into your kitchen after rolling around in a bit af shortcrust!

I'm very much on stage 1 of that squirrel video sequence. Just introducing them to the concept of the washing line at the moment. I only have 18'x18' to work with, but some of those perspex tunnels could be constructed. Must finish the Small Bird Sanctuary first...

LoL, loving the squirrel antics.  I was out yesterday and heard a noise up a tree.  It was a squirrel. I wondered what he was doing and took a quick pic.  When I got home and zoomed it in it looks like he was knitting! LoL!

I think he's texting on a very tiny squirrel mobile phone (not a blackberry though; he'd eat that!)
