This beauty has just made my week if not my year.
not sure if it's got a bad leg or they stand on one.leg
got a few more to post
How big was she? If she was about jackdaw size she was probably a juvenile male. If she was at least as big as a woodpigeon, she will be a female. Or at least that's what I go by!! Probably totally wrong.
Hi Alan wonderful clear photo's ,these Irish Sprawks don't sit still long enough to get shots like that ,well done
regards Mick
Female then.
Ever heard the expression Hawk Eye??? LOL She will have seen you, she just didn't see you as a threat. Mine sits on the shed roof or in the tree and stares at me!!
Nice pictures, looks like a young female to me.
Great pics of a beautiful bird... We see one from time to time flying through but oddly enough it landed on the pergola about 10 foot from where I was sitting eating tea.
Yeah my camera was by my side too so I was able to catch our young female sparrowhawk...
Well done mate.
Hi Alan.
Excellent shots. Aren't you one lucky boy,bet you feel on cloud nine.
Still waiting to get a good photo of mine.
Some people have all the luck ...sigh.

Absolutely fantastic Alan what a beauty you are a lucky spud , I had one crash land onto my beech hedge on Sunday I was so gutted I couldn't get a pic. I posted on here what had happened and that I was certain that it was a sparrow hawk, I recognized it in an instant because of the outstanding photo's on here that I'd seen
Hi guy's, its so reassuring to know that your all so spot on, thank you
Wow, some stunning pictures there Alan! I volunteer at a local bird sanctuary that takes in and rehabilitates sick or injured wild birds for release again and I've been lucky enough to have a wild female Sparrowhawk sitting on my hand (whilst wearing a falconry glove I might add!) as calm as anything (she was brought in because she collided with somebodys window and they thought she may have been concussed). Whilst we were cleaning out her cage she was flying around the room and I have to say if I was a small bird I'd have been ducking for cover! One look from those eyes would be enough for me...
Very handsome bird you have there Doggie, obviously feels quite safe in your patch
