Today we’ve had a female blackbird trotting round our small garden all day. She’s bobbing around the perimeter, standing in middle of lawn, even investigated our kitchen/diner. Thankfully I managed to close the door to rest of house so she wouldn’t be stuck indoors!
She’s not flying at all and doesn’t look obviously harmed it’s just odd to me she’s just walking round. Could it be she is nesting? She is quite unbothered by my presence (I’ve been pottering at plants, hanging washing and reading on a chair. I read that they best close to ground and in dense bushes/shrubs? Thankyou for any advice. J
*nest (not best)
Definitely an adult female blackbird and not a juvenile?.....blackbird or juvenile starling. You say trotting and walking. Blackbirds hop, so sounds more juvenile and/or more starling behaviour to me.
sorry, I wasn’t too sure how to describe the walk to be fair. I’d definitely say not a starling as we’ve lots of those. At first thought a thrush but the legs are dark in colour. At times she was moving quite quickly, sort of running with her head down like the makes do at times
Thanks. Would be interested in seeing a photo. Unlikely to be a nest and adult female though, if it was out in the garden most of the day, and not feeding or incubating anything.
