Saturday lunchtime; bird feeders full, washing on the line and the sun shining on a crisp late winter's day when suddenly the bantams raced for cover and I spotted a sparrowhawk had landed in the shallow birdbath near to the house. It didn't attempt to drink or move and I got a couple of photos via my mobile when I wondered if it had something small in it's claws. I first thought it may have got tangled up but then, after a minute in the shallow water it flew off and my husband mentioned it had a bluetit. When zooming in on the photos I saw it did indeed have a blue tit. I've read about them drowning starlings, finches and magpies but never witnessed it. Sad to know this tit's fate but that's nature. We all have to eat.
Could be drowning it. Also Poss it caught it at the bird bath?
Ah, that didn't cross my mind. It suddenly appeared and glared at me as they do. Thanks for the reply
