I had a different garden visitor today....

It was a sparrowhawk. It looked like a large female as it was greyish brown with mainly white chest & legs.

I was upstairs at the time and wondered why the garden had suddenly become quiet. Then as I looked through the window I saw her sitting in my tree at the bottom of the garden.

I nearly fell downstairs trying to get to my camera on it's tripod in the study, but sadly she saw me and flew off.

Still, the last sparrowhawk that visited my garden was 27th March 2009 according to the photos I took, so I think I was due another visit.

I only hope that it's not so long next time.

I'm going to keep everything crossed that it's as cold and frosty tomorrow as it was today, and that she comes back. I hope she doesn't catch one of my 'blueys' though.

Best wishes Chris

  • Great Woodpecker hope she comes back for you

So pleased you spotted her Chris. Photographs are a bonus but just to see them is great.

Ahh .. that's exactly what happened to me, when mine landed a couple of Sundays ago .. and I had the portrait lens on the camera, not the zoom! ;o)
