A family day out...
That's a female Wolf spider with young. This on the other hand is possibly Ungoliant
Actually a Crab spider (Xysticus sp.) only a few mm across on a curled up leaf. These are the same critter.
Just a little one - I think maybe a Common Candy-striped spider - it's just abseiled down and landed on the leaf, although you can't see the strand of silk.
And one of the commonest spiders I see, one of the Long-jawed Orb-weaver species
Best wishes
Hazel in the Gironde estuary, France
When you see these they always look very dark and it always surprises me how colourful they really are when seen close up. One of the little Wolf Spiders that you see scurrying about on the lawn or patio. If you look carefully you can see my reflection in its eyes! I don't know if the big palps signify a male?

That's a fabulous photo Nige.
Sadly many insects are overlooked, mainly because of perceptions, scary, they bite, they sting, they're dirty feeding and revelling in dung and other not so nice ideas, but they're actually a very vital part of the ecosystem, many clearing up after us and also providing food for others, among many other valuable tasks.
