Blue tit nesting

Hi, we’ve had a pair of blue tits starting a nest in a box in the garden, the last 2 days there only seems to be one bird around - is this normal? Before that we seemed to see a pair quite regularly.  One is still in and out of the nesting box - I’m worried something has happened to one of them

  • Hi Sarah,   it is usual for the female blue tit to build her nest alone (generally speaking) so you may see one blue tit more often than perhaps a male (both adult sexes look the same).    Once she begins sitting on eggs and particularly once the eggs have hatched both blue tit will be very busy back and forth to the box both feeding their offspring.    It's still early yet but HERE's a diary of their activity for you to read.

Ah thank you for the reply - that is reassuring; let’s hope they successfully breed
