July / August flowers.....

Following on from my "June flowers" type thread here's one to post what's flowering in your garden right now!.....As I was away from here through much of July I have incorporated the two months together.

I have to say mid July -Sept is the time I really enjoy and my garden 'peaks' during this time.

Here's what's flowering now in Higgy's garden.....

1. Californian Poppy

2. Helenium

3. Canna (just starting to show)

4. Japanese Anemone (I have these in various forms and colours)

5. Anemones

6. Day Lillies

7. Not sure what this is but it is a wild flower of some form???

And then of course there is some lovely foliage at this time also....

8. Ladies Mantle

9. Banana (in my tropical border!)

What's out in your garden right now???

  • I also tried an Echinacea in a previous garden and it didn't survive the winter for some reason. I haven't planted them since but will definitely have a go again now I've seen this.

    Many thanks

  • Here are a few more pics. I have so many flowers out at this time of year, I don't know when to stop! Let me know when you get bored. Just a few a day perhaps.....

This one is Achillea millefolium 'Cerise Queen'

And this one is Allium Sphaerocephalon and increases in number each year, so a clump of 20 bulbs soon becomes 60 and makes a fantastic display.

And this one is Alstromeria Princess Cerise Pink

I'll be back with some more in a few days. Happy gardening!

    bye for now

  • Don't want to hog this thread - I am afraid I have so many things flowering in July and August - let me know if this gets boring and I will stop!

This is sanguisorba officinalis arnhem. Very hardy, grows quite tall and looks like hundreds of raspberries have invaded the garden! It sways around in the breeze and looks good near the back of the border.

This is verbena rigida and geranium rozanne growing side by side.  This verbena is only half hardy, but I have had two plants in the garden for three years and so far they have withstood even the coldest of winters without protection. You have to be very patient in the spring though, they take ages and ages to show little shoots and just when you have completely given up - up they come! The geranium is my absolutely favourite geranium. It starts flowering in June and goes on until September. In the right position it makes a plant several feet wide and deep and will spread out onto a path or patio and look stunning.

One of my favourite roses Rosa Gertrude Jekyll. Now flowering for the second time. Lovely scent, about 5 feet tall, but will make a short climber if not pruned too hard. No disease or black spot to speak of. A beaut!

  • Beautiful pictures, lovely flowers.  Little blue job is a nemophila - do an Images search.  It's an easy growing annual that will often seed itself around.  Frequently grown as a hover fly attractant.  (You may see this twice as I accidentally posted it somewhere else!)

  • Thank you Doggie, that's very kind. I had a whole stack ready to post, but as no one else has put any on since my last two lots, I thought I had better wait! Didn't want to overdo it!!

    put some on for me

All right then Doggie, as you are indulging me lol!

This one is Campanula lactifolia 'Pritchards Variety'

And this one is Phlox Paniculata Eva Cullum

This another phlox that was in the garden when I bought the house, no idea what it is called but is amazing. Only one flower head out yesterday, so truly an August flowerer!

and Filipendula Hybrid Kokome which needs moisture and I have it growing in a bog garden

lastly (for today anyway!) Agapanthus Headbourne Hybrids

My garden is looking stunning at the moment! And at last the butterflies and dragonflies and damselflies are increasing in number, so I might put a few of these up on a separate thread soon.

    bye for now
