Has anyone any suggestions? I planted a small clematis "H F Young" 3 years ago. Notwithstanding pretty awful winters, it's survived and , in foliage terms, thrived. I grows up the back of a golden fir where I let the fir foliage die.
But.. I have no flowers :(
It's no a north facing, but sheltered slope with heavy soil. Because it's under the tree the soil is quite dry. I've protected its roots from direct sunlight, but it gets sun later in the day.
Any suggestions, please?

It seems to be doing too well ! Abundant foliage but no need to flower. I forget the science exactly but I have it in the back of my mind that some plants will only flower when under stress, other than that they put all there energy into leaf production. I may have got the wrong end of the stick but someone will put you right.
I have sweet peas & a lovely clematis growing over the same rose arch. The clematis (growing from the dry, darker, grotty side) is flowering abundantly, the sweet peas (on the damp, sunny, well fertilised side) have got acres & acres of foliage but only one flower so far this year !
I feel your pain
I grew a few of the lovely early wee bell shaped flowering 'Alpina' sp? when in Aberdeenshire + they thrived. My Uncle grews them well in Cromdale.
