Hello folks!
Does any of you seasoned gardeners out there have any idea what this plant is? We've got a few that have sprung up in our borders over the last few months but I left them thinking they were just the bulbs that I had planted - dahlia, gladioli and liatris - but they don't look anything like this. They have cabbage like leaves and small yellow flowers. I've searched on the interweb and checked in books to no avail.
Are they some variety of cabbage and if so, where on earth did they come from? Many thanks for your help.
Fergus
It's oilseed rape. Either blown in from a field or from birdseed.

Yes almost certainly from bird seed as think it would be too heavy to blow in the wind.
Most people never get to see the leaves all they see are fields of yellow :-)
A very old Shropshire Lad.
Oilseed rape? My word! That never even crossed my mind. It's definitely from bird seed though. Like Chris says, you never see the leaves, just the countless yellow flowers in the fields. Many thanks for helping solve the mystery guys. I owe you all a pint!
Cheers
