hi there
When do Buddleias usually flower?
I cut my back late this year, and I wonder if it will affect the flowering - has anyone got a flowering plant yet?
Thinking of those butterflies which love the flowers!
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Hi Kathy, we cut ours back at the beginning of March and it's just started to bud so we think it will start blooming in a week or so. There are some wild one's down by the river that are not cut back and they are blooming already. Can't wait for ours to bloom and attract all those lovely Butterflies ;-))

Feed The Birds....not the cats!!!!
I know....my spelling's crap !!
I think a lot depends on when you cut them back. I had done some work on some of ours before the winter really got going and they are showing buds that should be in flower in ten day or so but others that were cut down later when I got up the courage to venture into the garden after the cold weather are not yet looking like flowering though I can see where the buds will form.
I wonder if staggered cutting would extend the flowering season?

God gave us two ears and one mouth for a very good reason!
My buddleias are still tiny...I know they are meant to be dwarfs but still! My aunt grew hers on indoors and they are so much bigger (I planted mine out lol)

We have an old buddleia which hasn't been pruned this year. Hasn't flowered this year, but it's in a cold shady corner, so will probably take a while yet, despite the long sunny spring we've had.

Seriously thinking about trying harder!
You should cut Buddleia back to 3-4 inches from the old wood in March. Prunning will give you more and better flowers.
Jenni, if you keep cutting the dead flower heads off your Buddleia will keep flowering.
Build it and they will come.
Mine is flowering now, but I believe it depends on when it is pruned.
Best wishes Chris

Hi Jackdaw (and doggie)
Buddleias really need hard pruning every year or they become too woody and what few flowers appear, are unattractively displayed on a long woody stalk
