Strawberries and apples and blackcurrents...

I have strawberries, apples and blackcurrents all appearing on my fruiting things at the moment :-)  Unfortunatele one of my patio apple trees seems to be on its last legs, so I've done the same thing I do with all my last legs plants - stuck it in the garden and got myself a replacement apple tree lol  I've also lost a couple of herb plants while I've been away too and the lawn has turned into a total wilderness!  Will be getting the strimmer out this weekend - though the plantain flowers will be left as they are for the time being as they are rather pretty and the grass isn't growing in their patch so everything else there is pretty low.  My wildlife patch is starting to get lots of flowers too - some daisy looking things and cornflowers :-)  Plus the weed in the corner has been joined by buttercups!  I like the weed in the corner, it has puple flowers and the bees seem to like it plus it fills up a dark corner!  It just needs to be controlled a bit as it does spread lol  I think I'll try putting some trellis behind it, see if I can get it to climb upwards!

  • Unfortunately we all lose a few things, but as you say plant it out and see what happens it might well surprise you and survive!

Your wild flower area sounds good, have you got any pictures? My wild flower area also has cornflowers in bud and corn marigolds out in flower but I have to confess only because I planted plugs! I also have one random field scabious and a couple of other things but I have to say that it was a disappointment not to get more up naturally! I still have more corn flowers of various colours which I kept back and will add these into the meadow as plugs also now that they are big enough to be a bit more resistant to the slugs! Hopefully some of the flowers I've added this year will seed and grow next year? (fingers crossed!)

  • I'll take some when the weather is nicer lol  It's looking tidier than the rest of the garden at the moment!  Though I seem to just have a few species but maybe others will come out later in the year.  All are from seeds so it hasn't done too badly.  I'm hoping to just get them seeding for next year too, but I have several packs of seed remaining as a back-up :-)

That apple tree has never done brilliantly, it isn't as hardy as the other two so I think maybe Scotland isn't it's ideal home lol

  • How did you prepare your ground for the wild flowers if they have done so well from seed...I thinks I might need some tips? LOL

  • Er, didn't really do anything lol  It was where the greenhouse used to be and the ground was pretty bad with gravel that used to be the greenhouse floor (plus bits of glass where we smashed the green house windows...lol)  I just raked it lightly, threw down the seeds, watered it (it was dry as a bone) and then left it.  The only digging I did was to part bury a log pile in the corner :-)

  • Sounds like the perfect job!!!!LOL

  • It is lol  Soooo easy, throw down some seeds and leave them to it!  Ideal gardening lol
