Hello all,
I wonder if someone can tell me, on our honeysuckle and Lavender there are some white sticky bits on the plants. Are they insects as I noticed the other day our sparrows were taking them of the honeysuckle, but not the lavender.

That would be cuckoo spit formed by a little insect called a froghopper at least thats the first thing to come to mind from your discription.
I wonder if the sparrows leave the ones on the lavender as that has an strong scent and as the froghopper feeds by sucking the sap from the plant maybe its tainted with the off putting (for sparrows ) smell.

Last year my honeysuckle had sticky leaves, which eventually curled and died. The plant has recovered and is not affected this year. I never did discover what the problem is - not much help - sorry.

Thank you for you replies,I have never heard of cuckoo spit, it is a new one for me.You are probably right about the lavender one as well.
Our honeysuckle is fine like yours Claire, My husband noticed this yesterday while he was watching the sparrows on the plant.

If it isn't Cuckoo Spit, then it could be Mealy Bug, although it's usually found in glasshouses.
Mealy bug is an insect that covers itself in white sticky material that tends to be quite waterproof.
