Had a catalogue through my door yesterday - plants for planting in autumn and winter! Can we get to summer first please? lol
But...I suppose it is time to be thinking of the next stage of the planting plan. So - what should I be thinking of planting this autumn? I'd like things that would add a bit of colour through th winter - I've spotted some winter crocuses which are probably a good choice but what other options are there (no shrubs, have enough shrubs already). I'd prefer things that are low/no mantainence that will just come back year after year without me having to do anything too, and of course things that are good for wildlife too!

Hello KatTai,
Polyanthus or heather is ideal depending what size garden you have got. I agree with you we are in summer, it is warm in Essex, and no sooner as the summer holidays have ended come Christmas gifts.

Haha might be getting my nephew his christmas present the next time the "Book People" are at my OH's work - will be the earlist I've ever bought a Christmas present! Though last year I was pretty much done by the start of November!
We have some heather in the garden, OH really likes the stuff so maybe I'll get some more to plant in the border once my shrubs there have grown a bit...
You could also have any alpine plants,or campanula which comes out every year. My mum-in-law gave us a bit and it grows, ideal ground cover. I agree with you that heather is nice
