I know....my spelling's crap !!
Cheers Sooty, I'll give them a go next year. i already have a few of the big red poopy's coming into flower and yhese have been coming back year after year and look just as lovely. My favourite all time wild flowers are Poppys.
I often have a yellow welsh poppy with one orange petal if one pops up I will take a pic.
Got to admit any orange welsh poppies get snipped so I only get yellows seeding around.

I quite like the orange as well - when I see them both in a garden I think of the old nursery rhyme 'Oranges and lemons the bells of...' etc. Or Art Deco china, it often has orange and yellow in the design. The Welsh poppies are such clear, bright colours:-)
I have loads of welsh poppies in my garden, they are everywhere...apart from in the wildlife meadow! I'll collect some seeds to put there for next year lol

Hi Rob
It's a beautifully coloured poppy. I must try and get some Welsh Poppy seeds and see if I can grow it. That reminds me I have some Blue poppy seeds somewhere that I bought and never planted.
I love the way poppy flowers look so papery fine.
Best wishes Chris

Be warned Chris, the Blue poppies can be very tricky indeed, they like acid soil, shade and it's best to take the flower heads off in the first year, so that they do better in later years:-( Always a shame that.
P.S. Just seen Monty Don talking about the trickiness of blue poppies (Mecanopsis something or other) andasking an expert at the Malvern Show, apparently acid soil is NOT necessary, but good rich soil is - they didn't mention deadheading in the first year but I read that when I tried to grow some (without success - but I'm in good company - Monty Don can't grow 'em either:-o)
Hi Rob,
Sorry I missed this first time round, What a stunning image!

Hi all and thanks for your comments.
Chris, Blue Poppy's !!!! Wow they would look stunning. You can't beat a meadow full of wild Poppy's.
Er, possibly a stupid question but some of my yellow poppy flowers are dying back and I'm wanting to collect some seeds to spread some on the wildlife garden (and probably at the back as they seem to be managing to grow there) but when is the right time to collect the seeds?
The seed head should dry out to a buff colour and if you shake 'em should rattle a little - but the danger is that when they ripen they may open and shed their seed in situ - to avoid that check them daily or tie a small paper bag over the plants that have almost ripened (and hope there's no rain or not a lot to make your bag soggy) and the seed heads will drop their seeds in the bag and you can plant 'em where you want them. If you use a plastic bag you run the risk of them 'sweating' and rotting off.
