Is virginia creeper any good for wildlife?
Millie & Fly the Border Collies
Not sure, but given that it forms quite a thick covering, possibly, certainly insects might like to lurk in there. Boston Ivy gives better colour and is better behaved I understand, in case you're thinking of getting a creeper, Boston or Virginia. But I don't know that from personal experience, just what I've read over the years.

Does Boston Creeper grow in the shade too? Saw virginia creeper cheap in Morrisons and was thinking of getting it to grow through the leyandii hedge.

Ah, so THAT's what's taking over the house!! I've always thought "Virginia Creeper" wasn't quite what I had, and now I know it's Boston Creeper! Thanks! Ours grows prolifically and has provided nesting (along with the honeysuckle that shares the wall) for blackbirds and dunnocks when allowed to get really thick.
A closed mouth gathers no foot.
I now have 3 to plant out hehehe £1.79 each so really not a bad price! After having trouble with more expensive plants I think I'll stick to the cheap ones in future as it is no big deal if they don't make it!

It is a vigorous grower, that is for sure.
I only buy plants from outdoors for my garden Kat as too many bad experiences over the years.Still, the weather is sooooo kind at the moment, with a bit of luck all should be well.Enjoy :0)
An optimist sees the beauty of the complete rose.A pessimist sees only the thorn .

Good, hopefully it will soon cover the horrible conifer hedge then lol
I've bought several plants from indoors, the majority have done well and they are usually so cheap that is doesn't really matter if they survive anyway!
All three are now planted up outside under the conifer hedge! :-)
Hi there!
Make sure you water well as those awful conifers dry up the soil like mad. Might be a good idea to put on a mulch of manure or good compost. Good luck!!

God gave us two ears and one mouth for a very good reason!
