Thanks guys for the help.
Will try brushing the leaves with my hand see what happens! I suppose it could be a tulip with a really big leaf, but all my tulips are currently going into flower at the moment and there is no sign of a flower on this on.
Hi Kat gets more complicated by the day, looked at wild garlic and leaves very smelly when rubbed and could see some flower stalks showing quite high. Some tulips go blind with no flowers for various reasons.Your pic looks very much like a orchid leaf as well but think you would be extremely lucky if it was.
It doesn't smell of garlic so I don't think it's wild garlic, it doesn't smell at all. The big leaf has started to curl over now and I can't see any signs of flowers.
Still think that autumn flowering crocus might be worth a think about!!

I can't find any pictures of their leaves :-(
I'll see what I can find for you.
Ok that drew a blank!! There are lots of images of the flowers in the autumn. My Gr Aunt + now my folks have some of these, Mum hates them!! They threw up large bright green leaves quite early in the year, they, my folks, are a bit south of you. The leaves really are large, you are probably right + they will be curling, falling over some time soonish, you then forget they are there for the summer + then in the autumn the large pale lilac flowers apear.
Not sure how we can get an image of the leaves, looked on the RHS web but they had no images at all that I could see. Ohhhhhh Ohhhhhhhhh had an idea, Gardeners World website is good, bingo!! Hope this is of interest to you http://www.gardenersworld.com/plant-detail/PL000000/10568/naked-ladies this was the best that I could. At least its a good description!! Lol
Probably way of mark + it will end out being a tulip that's gone blind after all!!
Good idea Osprey but beware Kat if it is Autumn Crocus all of plant is poisonous I think,so when you rubbed it to see if it was Wild Garlic,Kat are you there Kat please reply are you there.
Hmmm I think you could be right osprey, the description seems to match!
Sooty - don't worry, I rubbed the plant with my gardening gloves on so I didn't touch it directly :-)
