Hi 25yrs ago i manged to grow a yuca plant from a log, and it never stopped growing since, other ther yrs ive harden it up to winter time and the last few yrs have left out side cos its way to big to get indoors, anyway the winter that has just gone has reall y blasted the yuca im sure to death, my yuca now has 20 braches and no foilage the steams are still firm and hard ive started to water the yuca and some feed too, i know it pot bound too. is there anything i can do to bring the yuca back to life?

Robert

  • Hi Robert

It's possible that the hard winter might have killed it, as it should be showing signs of growth by now.

They are easy plants to grow, and you might be as well to start again with a new one. They can be successfully grown outdoors as specimen plants, but if you want to keep it in a garden planter, you will need to pot it on as it gets bigger.

You should use a general fertiliser during the growing season.

You could try taking your old one out of it's pot and planting it in the garden to see if it comes back.

    Best wishes Chris

  • Hi Robert

If its any consolation we have lost a 20yr old eucalyptus - a bay tree and possibly our  buddleas.

It was minus 17 at one point here so im not surprised

Growing old is inevitable - Growing up is optional !
