I seem to have a lot of this growing very quickly in part of the garden!
Any ideas what it is?

I think your plant is "ranunculus repens", a creeping buttercup. It is a pest in my garden, especially in damp spots and propagates itself by runners.
Not sure if it has any wildlife virtues, but I try to keep it under control by hand weeding.

Good thinking Claire and think a good chance you are correct.
Now for the next one Kat surely by now you have another strange plant, get camera out and go round your garden, this is good fun.
I'm now thinking Alexanders but yet again, not sure.
Oh dear O H thinks it is probably Meconopsis Cambrica or common name Welsh Poppy so will look forward to see what it turns out to be but probably Yellow flowers anyway.

Hmmm so two options then! Welsh Poppy or Creeping buttercup! I seem to remember there was a yellow poppy in that part of the garden last year so it could be the poppy. Will have to wait for the flowers I guess!
Sooty - I have another mystery plant but been working and haven't had time to get a photo of it! Will go take one now ;-)
Kat,
I'm now going with the poppy option.
I had another look at my creeping buttercups and the structure is not the same as your photo.
More yellow flowers! Definately some kind of poppy :-)
It's amazing to think there was only one of these last year and now they are EVERYWHERE lol

Looks like Welsh Poppy Kat and next year you lucky person will have millions, you will have nightmares about them, they grab you when you walk past and wrap you up.
One two millions in a matter of years, that doesn't sound fun! Will probably have to start pulling some up next year, though there are a couple of areas they can have so I may be collecting the seeds from some to sow there for next year! They are certainly proving to be good ground cover in part of the garden.
