I am pretty useless at wild flowers, and out walking today I saw loads of these lovely little flowers. They were mainly in shaded areas by a hedgrerow or in woods.
Can anybody tell me what they are?
There are 9000 species of bird on earth. Let's keep it that way.
Hi Budgie they are called celandine
Regards Mike
Pssst! Nudge nudge Wanna see some pictures Here
Think they are Celandine's.Whoops sorry Janner posts crossed.
Thanks very much Sooty and Janner. This good weather is certainly helping all the wild flowers look there best at the moment.
Arnt they wonderful :-)
Once the flowers fade the leaves stay for a couple of weeks then the whole plant vanishes until next spring.
A true sign that spring has arrived at last.

Hi Budgie
They are actually Lesser Celandine and are related to buttercups. Celandine on its own is a common name for three species of flowers - the other two being members of the poppy family. If you get them in the garden they can be quite difficult to get rid of.
