Just thought I'd share that from Thursday 24th march Aldi's have great prices on fruit bushes - £2.99,
Strawberry plant packs-£2.99 and they also have vegetable plug packs at £1.99.
I have not bought any plants from Aldi before, but am definatley going to buy a few of the fruit bushes, I am no gardener, but am trying to add plants that will encourage wildlife to the garden, and if I fail with these fruit bushes at least I wont have lost too much money. http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_18130.htm

I take it you know more about gardening than I do LOL, are these fruit bushes easy to look after?
Unknown said: yeah they should be looking at them most should be able to be grown in pots...the blackberries can be a pain if left to ramble i've just had to cut all mine down to ground level because they were over running the garden..my freezers still full of blackberries from last year...we used to have gooseberries when we were kids they can grow like a small hedge alan

Ideal then for me if they will grow in pots. I have to be careful because Ive already bought 2 hawthorns, a crab apple tree and I think the other is called a wild cherry tree......talk about throwing myself into the deep end LOL, and I have yet to decide where im putting all these plants.

Hello from Me & Holly
There's an Aldi in Exeter. Just off Alphington Road, not far from St. Thomas Station. If you go down the hill from where you bought your bins, over Exe Bridges (look out for swans & ducks) & head to the left of the swimming pool you'll find it within 5 minutes. May see you there !
Happy shopping !
Hi bekky,
Thanks for pointing out these plants. I have to admit to buying a blackcurrant bush from Tescos a while back for a few quid and it has gone from strength to strength, much to the pleasure of the local Blackbird fraternity!

Glad you bought some of the plants. I did visit my local Aldi today, but had second thoughts on the fruit bushes, especially since Robbo said they need a certain compost and not really good for attracting wildlife..........BUT I did come away from there with a tree...LOL....its a Prunus Nigra(pink flowering plum).........I know nothing about this tree, but it looked real good value for money so I bought it at £4.99 and 5ft high it seemed a bargain, I was also tempted to buy a Rowan tree there, but thought not, because ive purchased a lot of plants and shrubs recently and havent a clue yet where im gonna place them all in my garden. I have just purchased a rowan tree from ebay, its about 2 ft and cost me a fiver, the ones in aldi were approx 5ft and £4.99.
Well I hope you get plenty of fruit doggie from your new plants :)

Hi claire
The plants were good quality too, as you can see from doggies pics. Do you pay much attention to your blackcurrant bush??........I had second thoughts thinking I would have to keep cutting it back regularly, and with my lack of gardening experience, I wasnt sure I could do that without making a mess of things LOL :)

yes I saw the crab apple trees too, there was quite a variety there. I already have a crab apple tree, otherwise I would have bought one too. I have just finished digging a deep hole for my ornamental plum tree, its in now and looks lovely......bargain prices at aldi.....think I need to slow down a bit on the plants now though LOL :)
