We have had a good week of dry weather, this gave me a chance this weekend to get into the raised beds and get them forked over for the Wife, all sorted now and ready for planting out , I was very surprised how well the soil had broken down, with the good hardy frost's we had over the winter period has done a power of good, it was not claggy at all, and dare I say it, a pleasure to be out in the garden helping.
We emptied all the compost from Gills heaps, mixed it in as I worked the beds over it over , so we are planning for Easter weekend to get things moving in the gardens ,Gill spent a lot of the weekend in the glasshouse sorting out stuff, and also set out her Shallots , and then today I even got the grass mowed , a good start to the growing season ,lets hope the weather holds out and we don't get the spring floods to set us back ,as we have had other years.
Regards Mick
Work is for those people that don't Bird-watch!!!!
I totally agree with you Kezsmum. Grandpaddy I would be in heaven if I had your garden and knowing you are doing it yourself must bring such a reward for all the hard work it involves.
I try to encourage birds and wildlife into my garden by putting up nest boxes, hedgie house, frog house, pond etc but we are surrounded by other houses here. I sometimes wish I lived in the countryside again.
Hello All,
Well on the back of your Clematis Montana walkway I went back down to 'The Range' at the weekend and bought another five climbers for a tenner including a Montana so the plants are bought just need to construct the arch walk-through when I have time and the back is back to full working order.......Can't wait!!!!!
Thanks for the idea Grandpaddy!

Pleased to be of service, you mind your back doing that digging .
There was an interesting and lucky (for the humans watching) bird sighting in a Newcastle garden - that of sound recordist Chris Watson - during a report from Miranda Krestovnikoff on Monday evening's 'The One Show' on TV.

That's great Higgy, I do love a pergola, never managed to have one, but they're great when festooned with lovely climbers, it'll make a great 'camp' for the Higlet too, to 'hide' from mummy and daddy:-)) Talking of hides, it could make great camouflage for taking bird pics couldn't it? Cup of tea, camera, patience - I can see it all.

[/quote] Hi Kezsmum, Some great ideas and the little 'Higlet' has discovered over this last 'sunny' week that the only place to be is outside playing hid n seek..... All the little paths and the bridges are like a magnet to her and she spends hours running around which is what it's all about for her at the moment! hopefully next year the wildlife section will be more developed and I with a bit of luck will spark an interest for her....
