Weekend in the gardens

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

We have had a good week of dry weather, this gave me a chance this weekend to get into the raised beds and get them forked over for the Wife, all sorted now and  ready for planting out , I was very surprised how well the soil had broken down,  with the good hardy frost's we had over the winter period has done a power of good, it was not claggy at all, and dare  I say it, a pleasure to be out in the garden helping.

We emptied all the compost from Gills heaps, mixed it in as I worked the beds over  it over , so we are planning for Easter weekend to get things moving in the gardens ,Gill spent a lot of the weekend in the glasshouse sorting out  stuff, and also set out her Shallots , and then today I even got the grass mowed , a good start to the growing season ,lets hope the weather holds out and we don't get the spring floods to set us back ,as we have had other years.

  • Hi Mick

That is one lovely garden with a fantastic backdrop, the photo makes it look quite a lot higher than the water, or do the floods you talk about flow through the garden going down hill to the water?

  • lovely garden there mick with a garden like that you should put on tours lol i complain of back ache just doing my little plot ...do you ever open it up for the public for charity ??

  • Hi Shane ,

I was talking generally about the floods , we live south of the Fermanagh mountains NI ,and it is the wettest place in Europe, its not a flood physically  up the walls like you get in the UK but the amount of water we get (usually all in one go) , and your correct when it rains its runs down the drive somewhat like a stream.

  • Hi Grandpaddy....

    Still loving those views!!......

Your raised beds look very neat and tidy in what I imagine to be an organised garden....

How big is your garden? Do you have any other pictures of it?

  • Was looking forward to getting into the garden this weekend!!!!    but alas Mother Nature has told us it is not quite the time yet !  woke this morning to 3" of SNOW!!  see the contrasting photos after a week

  • That is some contrast there! We also woke to a white landscape, its nearly all gone here now, but there was a fair amount through the night. Def to soggy for a day in the garden, wish my raised beds looked as good, they are as yet awaiting soil!! Better get the worms munching more to make lots of compost!!

  • Blimey Mick, I saw your first photo before I read your post and thought it was a park! What a beautiful location, with or without snow. Back breaking work, though - I couldn't do it and my hubby doesn't know what a spade looks like!

    Cheers, Linda.
