Improvised edging

What do you think of my improvised edging?  Okay, not as neat and pretty as the proper edging but this one cost nothing and is only there to keep the soil and plants off the path!  Can anyone guess what the improvised edging stones were originally used for?

  • Hi Kat my you have been busy, are they old roof tiles, best wishes.

  • Sooty - wish they were old roof tiles, would have been a lot lighter!  Not old roof tiles though :-)

  • Were they the bricks out of old storage radiators? I've seen them before but can't think where.......got to get the old grey cells working

  • Hi Kat. I think your edging's great. I love to see recycled and improvised stuff - it gives a garden more charachter. These are really puzzling me, they look quite thick and I can see that they have a shaped side to them. Hmm. Bet they were heavy. Best wishes, Ness.
A garden is a thing of beauty and a job forever!

Bridie well done!  You are right, they are the bricks from the old storage heaters! :-)  We've taken down 2 of them, still have a 3rd to go so that will be another 8 or so bricks to extend my wall lol.

And I love things that are free lol spent way too much on the garden without spending money on bits of stone lol

I can't think of anything that can be done with the old shed, that's the next big job in the garden!  Won't be done for a couple of weeks yet though as I'm working.

    Hi Kat Tai,

I also like 'stuff' for free and have just acquired about two dozen large rocks from someone at work, haven't got a clue what I will use them for yet?......The last lot of 'free' rocks I had turned into this.....

    .

I'm sure I will find a use for these other 'freebies'.....just can't refuse the chance of free materials and of course all in the name of recycling!!.....

Still don't know what to do with your shed.......may be turn it into a hide for viewing your feathered visitors??

  • I love your bridge!  Call me crazy, but I love bridges!  That is so cool, I'd love to have something like that in the garden but I suspect it would soon start rolling down the hill.  I posted a thread with a load of links about wildlife gardening the other week and that had a section on using rocks in the garden, that might give you a few ideas :-)

Alas cannot keep the shed where it is so it will have to be shifted for the new shed and there is no where to put a hide in the garden :-(

  • Oh yes I remember that post now so will look it up and see what it has on it. I usually find that as you do one project another one just slots into place alongside it and the garden just evolves, I'm sure that I will have a moment of madness at some point and find just the use for them!

Sounds like it's to the tip with that shed then!
