The greenhouse has finally been dismantled so the wildlife garden can now be seeded! But, with the greenhouse gone the wall at the back was, well it was looking a bit on the bare and empty side. So, a trip to B&Q and I returned with three shrubs that were in the reduced section - a skimmia, escollonia and a privet (plus a rosemary for the patio). It cost less than a tenner for all of them, though they are all needing some TLC but they are now filling that space. As a bonus, all are pretty good wildlife-wise (though I don't know whether the skimmia is male or female so no idea whether I will get berries or not). Figure I might as well give some tatty old plants a chance at a home, if they don't take then it's no big loss and if they do then great! Now to start work on the wildlife garden...

You could start a new society for the rescue of distressed plants:-)) They should perk up with some TLC, I should think. They'll certainly provide shelter for birds and insects - although I have to say, privet flowers always make me feel really ill, quite sick, it's the scent, I fair dread having to be close to one when it's flowering:-( But I expect the bees are keen:-)

Good idea :)
It's sometimes heartbreaking to see plants dying in garden centres etc... (well for me it is anyway!)

Haha society for destressed plants, that sounds like fun! They're already not looking too bad, gave them some good compost and a good water plus it has been lovely sunny and warm today so no doubt that will give them a boost!
I don't have a clue what kind of privet mine is, it's not evergreen and that's about as much as I know so I don't have a clue whether it will flower or not!
