At last a day in the garden!!

AT last I actually managed a day in the garden and started cutting back and tidying up my borders and hedges/shrubs etc!

It does give you a real sense of achievement when you get your first good day of the year in doesn't it?

As it rained all day I did get rather wet to say the least but nothing was going to stop me today, and I certainly didn't want to waste a day off work!

My compost also arrived today at 9am so I got wet wheelbarrowing that around the back any way so thought that I might as well carry on....already wet....

How's this for a supply of compost then....

Ordered it about midnight on Sunday and arrived 9am today!...on first inspection it looks good so definitely a good and cheap way to buy it if you need a lot....

Got to move all this 100' or so down the garden to the raised beds now!!!!!!

  • Wow, that is a lot of compost. Well done you for braving the rain. I did get out in the garden for a while on Monday but my lawn is so waterlogged it would have caused a paddy field if i'd trudged about today

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

  • Lord Higgy! you could do with a chain of helpers to move that lot with your long garden! lol!

  • Well done you, Higgy!!!

I too got my first day in the garden recently and did much the same as you. I didn't order as much compost though! :) We have compost bins that provide a good supply.

I have to confess I had backache the next day!!!!

  • I've just shown this to the other half who objects to "buying dirt" from the garden centre. Maybe next time I want him to lug a bag or 3, he won't complain! ;)

A closed mouth gathers no foot.

That's a load of compost all right - your raised beds will be great if your border is anything to go by. Hope you're not too exhausted by the end of heaving that lot around. I know I should remember, but what do you plan for your raised beds?

  • Hi All,

Thanks for the replies and to answer a few questions....

Yes I do now have back ache!!..

Yes I did get very wet!...

The raised beds are for vegetables. My wife has no interest in gardening but has decided that this year she will have a go at growing vegetables!...I don't have a lot of 'enthusiasm' for growing vegetables so have built her two raised beds which have now been lined with polythene ready for my next exercise session...filling the damn things up with compost!

Definitely a cheaper way to buy "soil"...will have to look up exact price but came in at £2something a bag so certainly less that the £4-£5 which may local garden centres currently charge....Oh it was free delivery also!

Yes I did have a 'medicinal' drink tonight, obviously just to get over my aches and pains!...

    Cheers

  • Hi higgy

Crikey look at all of that compost! You must have acres of garden to manage :-))

I recommend a glass of Drambuie over crushed ice as a nice nighttime drink. ;-)

    Best wishes Chris

  • Ha ha thanks Chris, that does sound nice. I am not a big drinker so rarely have much in the house and unfortunately tonight was no exception, after rummaging around in the kitchen I managed to locate an old can of Guinness at the back of the fridge.....have to say after all that hard work it tasted delicious!!!!...

Well earned - a can of spinach is recommended before you fill the raised beds - or are you too young to remember Popeye and the truly astounding properties of a can of spinach!
