Gardens throughout the year

I thought it my be interesting to have a thread showing our gardens and the way they change throughout the year.  Here's mine looking a bit of a mess at the moment -

I di leave most of it uncut over winter to give the insects more places to spend the winter - well thats my excuse - I was probably just being lazy.

Best wishes

  • Hi Stoat,

Yes it would be good to see some pictures of your beds.....and your wild flower lawn?

My wild flower lawn looks ok as it is now quite long and I have mowed my paths in however I can't boast about having many flowers yet! So far I have had butter cups, daisy, clover and yellow rattle come through and a couple of other plants I'm not sure what they are. Unfortunately it only seems to be that odd plant hear and there so far. To boost it out a bit I planted my plugs which I had grown and they are starting to take well now we have had some rain but my first lot of cornflower plugs were devoured by the slugs as if they were lettuce!!.....luckily I had a couple more trays so I've planted out another tray and have kept one back to grow on into bigger plants before risking them! I also planted corn marigolds (I think) which are quite big now and doing well and corn cockle which also seems to be doing ok along with some ox-eye daisies (again first lot got eaten!)......

Here's a picture of the plot but as it was taken a few weeks ago it just looks like grass in this photo but hopefully it gives you the idea?

I'll post up another when I have some plants in flower showing through......hopefully!

  • Dunno what happened there!  I've lost the lead to my camera so thankfully can't upload any photos at the moment.  The lawn is not looking anywhere near as good as yours.  I did see a wildflower roll the other day for under £15 in the paper the other day which I may have to resort to next year.

    Cheers

  • He he, that would be cheating wouldn't it?......everyone keeps saying they take a long time to establish so I will 'plug' on......(got a load more plugs to plant!) I hope that when they flower and set seed some might grow next year and eventually give me a meadow!?.....impatient that's my trouble!

  • Some flowers in my garden this week.

  • Hello, its indoors in a glasshouse during the winter and currently outdoors at the mo.... but my secret is .....to  have lots of them.  :-)

  • Well my wildflower lawn has got the wild bit right but not so sure about the lawn bit.  No idea what the tall plant is but I know I've just pulled a load out of my veggie patch too.

  • Wow, what fantastic gardens, I love the wildlife stacks, the wild flower meadows, the raised beds, the plants, in fact I love all of it/them. I’ve read back through the whole of this thread and would love to reply to all the post but that would make for a long winded post.

My garden is dedicated to my wildlife. I grow flowers for the bees and butterflies, have log piles and a very small wood for the beetles, fill the compost heaps for the snakes, have a pond for the frogs and newts and a wild flower meadow for insects to feed the bats. I can’t imagine gardening without the wildlife.

It is lovely to meet like minded gardeners.

Build it and they will come.
