I thought it my be interesting to have a thread showing our gardens and the way they change throughout the year. Here's mine looking a bit of a mess at the moment -
I di leave most of it uncut over winter to give the insects more places to spend the winter - well thats my excuse - I was probably just being lazy.
Best wishes
Stoat
I'm not bald. I've just got ingrowing hair!
I can`t even get the dock leaves right! I swear this picture is not doctored.
Quite chuffed this weekend. I put a hedge in a couple of years ago to screen the chicken pen and I've just noticed this flowering amongst the trees
Its also the first time the flag irises have flowered since the year I bought them. They are in quite a shady part of the garden so perhaps the sunny spring weather has helped
Cheers
Nice one Stoat, I have flag irises out also and they love our damp clay soil. Unfortunately the other irises in my collection are struggling a bit this year for some reason, I'm presuming it's the dry spring that we have had? I planted a load of different varieties around my stone bridge feature last year but haven't seen a flower on them yet so I'm hoping that this bit of rain might bring them on now?
How are your raised beds coming on mate?
Here's a picture of mine.......
That 'Dandies' top soil certainly seemed to do the job!!.....
They seem to be coming on quite well thanks Higgy. I'll get some photos up soon. The wildflower lawn is a bit sparse but thickening up slowly. I think you are meant to sow them in the autumn rather than spring so that might cause a bit of an issue but we will see. The veg patch is comong on ok too but not as well as yours by the looks of it!
Love the raised beds, Higgy - did Mrs Higgy get to put trowel to compost and if so, is she enjoying it?
not quite so chuffed with the rose in my hedge no. it got me when i was going to let the chickens out this morning and i've now got a nice scratch on my nose!
Sorry about the hooter Stoat, but a very nice dog rose nonetheless:-)
Its not much of a scratch really, just thought it was quite funny my earlier post.
Hi Kezsmum,
Lets just say that Mrs Higgy thinks that she's growing it!!.....have to confess to helping with the watering, done all the weeding for her last week so trowel to soil?......"briefly" is my answer!!
She is however enjoying her book about growing veg that she bought herself!!....
