I want to volunteer

As we start a new year I would like a new challenge in my life. Volunteering is an ideal way to do this as it means I can meet new friends while giving something back to the community. However, having spent some time scouring the website reading about the ways in which I can volunteer.. I cannot find how to go about it! Please tell me the next step
