RSPB NI are excited to announce a variety of incredible events that celebrate science, nature, and the power of conservation as part of the 2025 NI Science Festival Programme. 

Online Talk with Ben Andrew

Join us for a unique online talk with Ben Andrew, RSPB's Head of Photography. Ben will share his inspiring journey to becoming a professional wildlife photographer, offering invaluable tips and tricks to capture stunning images of nature. Get ready to be amazed by breath-taking photographs and captivating stories from Ben's experiences in the field.

For Peat's Sake with Lucy Lapwing and RSPB NI

Date: 23 February Time: 3.00-4.00pm Location: Ulster Museum

Discover the fascinating world of peatlands and why they're so vital for our planet.

TV personality and self-confessed nature nerd, Lucy Lapwing, joins RSPB NI for a deep-dive into the world of peat and why it’s vital for our planet.  Delve into the hidden world of bogs, hear about Lucy’s experiences, from squelching Sphagnum mosses, to discovering dazzling dragonflies before being joined on stage by RSPB NI for an insight into the ground-breaking Peatland Programme. Hear first-hand what the conservation charity is doing to restore and protect these unique ecosystems on your doorstep, including protecting the incredible wildlife that calls them home, and importantly what crucial role peat plays in combating climate change.

A dusk dander on Rathlin Island

Join Aaron Kelly, expert ecologist, founder of the Blackmountain Rewilding Project in Belfast, and LIFE Raft team member, as he leads a walk to explore what amazing wildlife you can see and hear on Rathlin as the night draws in. From the calls of the curlew to the flap of the bat, there’s a whole host of island nature to discover!

  • When? Saturday 22 February, 16:00-17:00
  • Where? Meet at the car park of McCuaig’s Bar
  • Free for Rathlin residents, £3 for non-residents
  • Dress warm with suitable footwear for an outdoor walk
  • Please make sure to book ferry tickets in advance, as well as accommodation if staying overnight. The last ferries leave the island at 16:30, and not all ferries accept luggage.
