The usual Ferry suspects....and a few waders!

It was supposed to chuck it down with rain here this afternoon - when it didn't do so I naturally grabbed the camera and headed for the Ferry.  The foot ferry was still running and there were plenty of birds about:

This herring gull's streaky winter feathers are well established.

The ferry dog looks mournfully at me as the boat pulls away from the jetty.

These birds are really good at balancing on awkward surfaces.

Pretty much all of the black-headed gulls have lost their hoods.

This beautiful sailing boat heads upriver.  I'm reliably told that she's an older wooden boat, dating back to at least the Sixties.

The Three Amigos enjoy their island!

I've seen some lovely sailing boats here lately.  This one usually lives a few miles upriver.

An oystercatcher on the mud flats.

A flock of black-tailed godwits with a lurking redshank attract the camera's attention from the Godfather, much to his displeasure.

What I first thought to be a pied wagtail turned out to be a lovely turnstone.

A common tern relaxes on a buoy.

There was quite a bit of flying about from the sandwich terns.

One of two little egrets at the water's edge.

Looking relatively chilled out as it swims near the jetty.

Finishing with this neatly balanced herring gull.

Enjoy, as always.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
