Hi all, whilst on the coastpath the other day I witnessed a 10 minute fight between a Raven and Peregrine -I presume it was a battle over territory, it was amazing to watch and they were so intent on each other that I got really close views as they tumbled above the cliffs and sea!
This is the cove that I was admiring before the action started
Raven-who was the main instigator of the scrap as it kept flying at the Peregrine and making a racket
then ...this Peregrine shot above my head,so close and gave the Raven what for!
this lovely Stonechat had a ringside seat but carried on catching bugs
I'll include a few other photos from last week -a beautiful male Wheatear
Choughs -including one without ring ankle bling
and the Botallack Ravens-this pair are usually in the same area and tend to stick together
Botallack
Buzzard on one of the chimney stacks
Bunny on the cliff edge- no doubt watching watching out for the Buzzard
Best wishes, Jayne

Lovely action sequence. Do you think it was a territorial scrap?

Absolutely fantastic, Jayne! What an incredible sight that must have been.
All the other photos are well up to your usual standard but the raven/peregrine ones top them all.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Thanks both - I'm no expert on Peregrine behaviour but to me it looked as if the Peregrine was hunting in the area as I saw it swooping after Fulmar. The Raven was putting a spoiler on things by flying around it and calling and the Peregrine went for it-the Peregrine won as the Raven eventually moved off
Thanks Clare -was amazing to watch
Jayne
Brilliant sequence, Jayne. I love the one with the two birds in a dogfight. Raptors and corvids just do not get on. All the other shots are great too.
