It was a gloriously beautiful day here yesterday which meant it was perfect for visiting the Ferry. I also took the opportunity to return a book to my friend the ferryman which he'd lent me rather a long time ago and the ensuing conversation went on for hours - as I sat on the ferry with him! What a way to spend a couple of hours. It goes without saying that the camera was far from idle for all this time:
The Godfather was looking effortlessly tough in the sunlight.
His offspring, though, has a long way to go!
The adorable ferry dog spent much of her time in this position. Awwwwww!
I'm reliably told that the herring gulls have had a good breeding season in Suffolk. I hope so, they need to get off the Red List and the sooner the better.
The harbourmaster was doing a brisk trade in river trips.
'Could you people dump your rubbish somewhere else? I can't eat this.'
This adult herring gull is clearly of the opinion that the youngster is old enough to find its own food.
I thought this sailing boat made a beautiful sight.
This gull clearly likes the rules to be strictly adhered to!
Herring gulls are big birds......until they sit near a great black-backed. Blimey.
This fishing boat heads out for its next catch.
There's no such thing as overdoing the shouting when you're a gull!
The gulls seem to like this unorthodox perch.
Finishing with this slightly weird set-up. I've never seen a canoe with a sail like this.
Enjoy, as always!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Another lovely set of photos from the Ferry, Clare. That sailboat (the real one) was very impressive, and despite the noise, scavaging and general nuisance of gulls, I do like them!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Nice set of pics, Clare: I like the first one, of the "Tough Guy!" -- plus of course, the happy dog and the beautiful sailing boat. I could watch them for hours, they're so graceful.
Also:
"I am a strapping Black Backed Gull,So don't think to mess with me.If there are any fish about,I own this bit of sea!"
A love set from your day out Clare.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Will Godfather Jnr remain in the area or are they territorial?
