What an utterly cold start to the day. I was awake nice and early, which meant I watched the sky lighten as I ate my breakfast - it was far too promising to stay indoors so to the Ferry I went! It was a good day to go:
Going fishing. Rather them than me!
The thick frost on the jetty ensured I spent a minimum of time on it.
The tide was going out. The light was so gorgeous some scenic shots seemed like a good plan!
Time for a few birds:
A relaxed start to the Sunday morning for this herring gull.
This one was a bit more lively.
There were a few redshanks about......
........and several dunlins.
Wakey, wakey!
A lovely pair of teals.
Mr Mallard makes an infrequent appearance this close to the Ferry..........
.......as does this avocet! I know they winter in numbers further upriver but I've never seen one all the way down here.
A picture of introspection. Most unlikely for a herring gull!
This is the sort of subtlety I'm used to from them.
Of course the Godfather barely needs to do anything at all to assert dominance. He only needs to turn up.
The herring gull finally gets to partake.
This was a surprise - I didn't know turnstones ate fish!
Two of them.
OK, it's officially a party! That fish is certainly lasting well.
The Harbourmaster heads across to Bawdsey for a walk. He's a sight fitter than I am.
This lamp-post is a favourite perch.
The fish continues to feed the masses!
Looking very stately!
This black-headed gull makes the most of a post while it lasts.
I loved the interesting taste in decoration!
Another boat heads out.
Enjoy, as always!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Love the scenic ones, Clare -- but shuddering over the spiders! Ugh!
