I'm lucky enough to volunteer at Minsmere each Friday afternoon. I usually pop in at Island Mere Hide when I've finished but today I felt like something different so I headed to Thorpeness to see what was about. I expected to see a good number of water birds and I wasn't disappointed there - but then this very handsome bird overcame his nervousness and posed very nicely for me. On seeing the photos I decided he merited his own thread:

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Lovely photos Clare, I like the first one as he seems to be really sizing you up sort of saying what on earth are you doing down there!

Hi Clare great photos. Not many crows in my garden here in Aldeburgh but have both Jackdaws and Rooks. They both have babies and the noise the kids make squawking for food is incredible and they don't give up until they get something.
