“If I hadn’t gone to Minsmere that afternoon we wouldn’t have met.”
Nature lovers- Humans of Springwatch a couples special!
You never know what might happen when you go to one of our reserves. There are numerous couples that have met at RSPB Minsmere. Some continue to help the RSPB and work side by side in the place their adventure together began. Here are just some of their stories!
Annette & Ian
Annette: Ian was working here and I was a residential volunteer. We started working side by side and he caught my eye. For the next 6 months he showed me around. We discovered that our attraction was mutual and it went from there.
Ian: We see working here as a lifestyle it’s very different but we enjoy it.
Karen
“It was a cold January day and it was later than usual, around 12pm, when I decided I fancied going to Minsmere. I got to wildlife look out for about 2pm and was watching the Bearded Tits. This photographer then stood by me and started setting up some shots, and we got talking and I asked him if he could email me his pictures as I hadn’t got my camera on me. After that we walked back to the cafe because it was so cold. Sure enough we started emailing and it went from there, it’s early days but if I hadn’t gone to Minsmere that afternoon we wouldn’t have met.”
Paul & Sue
Sue: We were brought together by a love of wildlife and a common interest in the nature on the reserve. We volunteered together. We’ve been together for 15 years. It’s our work and our passion.
Paul: It’s a beautiful place. I love working here as no two days are the same there is always something new to be seen.
Sue: One of the best parts is working with volunteers and staff. Plus there’s always new cake to try.
Paul: Our children visit the reserve regularly.
Katie & David
“David was working as a warden and I was a residential volunteer. We met while working together here. We moved to Shetland for a year but we just missed the softness of Suffolk so much. Minsmere is a very special place you can’t visit here without enjoying it. This is the most exciting place I’ve ever worked.
Now we have two children and they think of Minsmere as their back garden. We come here even at weekends. That’s right, even on my day off I choose to spend time at Minsmere as there’s so much to explore and see.”
Minsmere has been and will continue to be a pivotal place in many people’s lives, if you’ve been following the blog we’ve seen that Minsmere provides not only a sanctuary for wildlife but also a haven for humans (the other wildlife around here). People have had their senses inspired, others find healing and peace, whilst for some Minsmere provides for adventures and discovery.
