Well, the weather really can't make its mind up at the moment can it?! one day it is lovely and then the next day it is pouring it down with rain.

I will begin this morning's post with a photograph of the juvenile common redstart that has been present for a while that was taken on Sunday:

Thank you very much to Kathleen and Ian for sharing this image with us.

A small flock of bearded tits were showing well from the dragonfly platform near New Fen viewpoint on Sunday afternoon. A red kite flew over and our first willow emerald damselfly of the year was seen near the visitor centre.

On Monday evening, volunteer John spent some time looking in the Scots pines at the edge of the car park. He saw the juvenile redstart, a juvenile nightingale and a lesser whitethroat.

On Tuesday, Warden Emma went for a walk around Brandon Fen and saw the juvenile redstart. She also saw a coal tit and a goldcrest.

It was really rather wet yesterday morning so it was a bit soggy for my morning walk. I saw a charm of around a dozen goldfinches along the riverbank and at least six common terns were feeding over the washland. A redshank was calling on the washland and a marsh tit was calling at the edge of the car park.

Fortunately, it was a lot more pleasant for my morning walk this morning. I went and had a look over the washland and saw:

A kingfisher was fishing at the edge of the visitor centre pond and a coal tit was singing in the car park.

If you are planning to visit the reserve, please note that there are cattle grazing on the riverbank between the Washland viewpoint and Joist Fen viewpoint.

We hope to see you soon!
