Hi all,
I thought I would let you know of a warning we received today at work about car jacking. I received it from a worthy source and apparently it has been confirmed both by the county council and also the police. Don't know if it operates outside of Essex but it costs nothing to let you know.
The car thieves patrol public car parks. They target cars by putting stickers/paper on the rear window. You return to your car and before you pull away, they assume that you will see that your rear window is obscured and will leave your car to remove it, leaving the keys in the lock and/or engine running. While you are at the back of your car, the car jacking numpties then appear and jump in and drive away, leaving you with a funny look on your face and a piece of sticky paper!
I have no reason to believe this to be a hoax and thought you might like to be aware.
Regards
Kerry

Hi Kezmo,
Have also received this e-mail in the past. According to 'snopes' it is a hoax: http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/carjack.asp but of course it always pays to be alert and careful in any situation!!

Hi.I can't drive myself so know this sort of activity isn't going to directly affect me. But all I can say is: What horible people! I guess it's just a case of being careful out there. Wherever you are.

Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.

Hi MarJus
Thanks for the confirmation. I went back to my "worthy source" and told them it was a hoax. The message received originally wasn't in an email format so was thought to be legit.
Note to self.....check Snopes before you email all and sundry!!
Yes, I've had this one too - more than once and many months apart! But as MarJus says, hoax or not, it always pays to take care.

hi Kezmo
I have not heard the one you have mentioned but quite often people send out e-mail hoaxes so our guard is up. Then things happen we do not expect to happen if that makes sense - so we are still treat the same issue as a hoax. All to do with mind games me thinks.
I have heard of the the traffic light senario. A person who bumps into your car from behind on purpose. You get out of your car and the inevitable happens!
Talking about stealing anything valuable. In the past year I have known of a person who parked their car in a nature reserve, They had their boot open, and they where having a cup of coffee sitting in the front seat area of the same car. They went back to shut the boot of their car and their scope and camera equipment had disappeared. Talk about a sneaky person!

It's certainly true that hoaxes or not, you do have to be on your guard everywhere you go. I do so hate to be distrustful of strangers but its a sad fact of life, now.
