Pandas

With little more than 1k wild pandas alive and  living in the mountain areas in China, what are your thoughts on Chris Packhams comments in this weeks Radio Times.

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

    hi Soosin

    It is true what you have said about the media hype.  There is nothing worse than to 'push' peoples buttons.to see the worse in someone (like Chris)

    Chris admitted that he said what he did say was to create an effect, and to get people talking about the subject.  Yes, he did too.  So he is a 'true' realist.

    I have had a look at some of the recent links connected with Panda's well being, and the links make for sad reading.  Panda's seem to have got to stage that they are kept in captivity, and that is to save them from themselves. So it is not their natural environment at all.  They have nothing to look forward to except living in a confined space and that is all they have now, and in the future.

    All of this does make a person think just like Chris has done so, and rightfully so too. {thoughtful}

     I did cringe when I heard about it and thought he'd shot himself in the foot.  But the guy's a realist ,and reading more on hm and his views generally,  just makes me warm to him even more. I've always been a fan since my daughter was small and watched his TV shows,

       I dont think people should be instantly upset  and get carried away on media hype, just look deeper into the issue and decide from there.

  • Thanks for posting that link, Blackbird. I've known of Chris Packham since his spiky-haired days on children's TV (The Really Wild Show, I think!) - it seems to me that he is more knowledgeable and interested in wildlife than he is in poilitics and handling the media!

    That said, playing devil's advocate is not always a bad thing...

    No worries.  I do remember him on TV a long time ago - but vaguely though!

    Then he just re-appears once more on TV as a wildlife presenter.

    Yes, I think Chris has learned a valuable lesson, that is to be prudent, and he will be fine no matter how he presents himself in the real world of 'media' people.

  • I do wonder how much the timing of Mr Packham's controversial comment was engineered - bearing in mind the story broke on the same morning the BBC Autumnwatch site "opened for business"...

    The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

    The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
