Blue Tit fledglings

Hi everyone, we have a slight situation here....

Ok so last year we had some blue tits nesting in our bird box, we witnessed them grow and fledge. However, earlier this year we got a bird box camera and a new bird box, we saw 10 eggs laid and saw them grow up and today 6 of them successfully fledged but one fledgling still remains in the bird box. Its been a few hours and is now quite late on into the night, and no parents have come back. We have tried to search for what to do online but none of the answers where very clear therefore were still not sure and its too late to call the RSPCA or RSPB. Hopefully the chick will survive until morning -we saw somewhere that they can die of Hyperthermia in the night without the warmth of their siblings- ,also will the fledgling be okay without food if the parents don't come back? Anyone know what would be the best thing to do in this situation?

We also have another slight concern, today we found a fledgling in my brothers tool box outside. It was stuck so my brother picked it up (with gloves on) and started to get it back to the bird box, on the way it flew away. We just wanted to double check that it could have survived?

  • You've correctly highlighted the upsides of having a camera. The biggest downside is knowing when things aren't going to plan. Unfortunately, it is common for eggs and young to not reach fledging stage. If anywhere took in 'left behind' youngsters, they'd be even more overrun than they already are. Re the fledgling in the tool box, so long as it wasn't trapped, that wouldn't be an issue and is presumably where an adult last saw it.
