Hi-
scuttlebutt says the new visitor cafe at Frampton is to lose the customised made to measure on site food selection and be replaced by derivative sandwich snacks etc..(
Anyone else heard about this? I haven't been up to the reserve this year yet:

I heard that cooking on the premises was to cease and that what was once prepared on the premises will now be outsourced and brought in.
It's not one less tea room, I believe it's all of them! Went to Old Moor reserve this weekend and their usual excellent selection has been replaced by "derivative sandwich snacks" from now on. Seems a massive shame.

Ian.

This isn't just confined to the RSPB, I'm seeing more and more issues with menus in many conservation orientated places/organisations, particularly where storing and cooking is part of the process. Some months back I had a very interesting and enlightening chat why a specific item wasn't available one day, but is/was on other days.

10% cost rise over two years is less than the rate of inflation! I'm not sure cutting the menu to cut costs to pay a 3rd party makes sense to me. By cutting the menu they're cutting their revenue as I doubt I'm going to use them any longer. I don't doubt it's challenging times, but cuts aren't always the answer.
Yes my local Wildfowl and Wetland Reserve made cuts at their cafe after coviid in North East England and have stopped making full meals. Lots of the National Trust shops have had to close as well. Including National Trust cafe’s closing.
I can remember when all RSPB reserves had no cafes, shops and no Toilets at any RSPB reserve and there are members longer than me on this forum who can remember that as well. I could say more about this from the past up to the 1980’s! ButI’ll leave it at that!
EEE ! I remember int old days when it were peanut butter sarnies wrapped int silver paper, a can of Top Deck Shandy and a Mars bar.....
